meet YOUR GENDER SPECIALIST

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

I confronted a bully at school for picking on nerdy kids. Since, I knew I needed to fight for the underdog.

lighting a match…

The first gender diverse person I met was in 2008. A beautiful transwoman struggling to get access to medical care, surgery to be exact. She was my first client at the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center in Portland, OR were I was completing a three-year internship.

Meeting her awoke an inner desire to fight for the underdog. And sparked a passion working with people of various gender expressions.

There, I founded and facilitated the Hormone Readiness Group for trans-youth.

keep on burning…

To spread gender awareness and make change happen, we need research, writing, education, and advocacy. I was fueled to pursue Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree from Pacifica Graduate Institute, which I attained in 2014.  My passion working with transgender people fostered an interest in much needed clinical research leading to the publication of "Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of Projective Drawings of Pre-Operative Male-to-Female Transgendered Individuals Perception of Their Genitalia."

To increase knowledge and educate mental health professionals, I wrote and contributed to Male-to-Female and Female-to-Male transgender courses, offered by the online training program Loveology University®, providing an overview of the transgender experience.  These courses have been added to Loveology University's® comprehensive coaching curriculum: http://www.loveuniv.com/.

spreading…

Fire needs to be fed, fed continuously. I invite you to join me in an ongoing conversation on topics of gender identity, transition, and transgender mental health on the TRANSFORMED Blog and on the DR Z PHD YouTube Channel, where I welcome your comments and questions.

giving back…

I am a strong believer in the importance of giving back in order to build a healthy community!  Transition & Beyond  and The Man Within are both free monthly support groups for transwomen and transmen in LA.

Knowing how many individuals require mental health evaluations for gender related surgeries, I made it my mission to provide all gender related evaluations and letter write ups completely free of charge! (please note you must be a CA resident, sorry CA licensure rules)

professional persona…

I hold a license in clinical psychology in the state of California (PSY28888) and I’m a member of the Los Angeles County Psychological Association and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

HUMAN TO HUMAN…

Beyond my professional persona, I am a human being, with many experiences similar to your own. I was born and spent most of my childhood in Uzbekistan. In 1994, my parents decide to move to the U.S. so that my siblings and I could have an opportunity of a better education.

At the age of sixteen, life threw a curve ball at me and I was diagnosed with cancer. Battling cancer is perhaps the biggest struggle I’ve had to overcome and it taught me the fragility of human life and our inner potential to persevere.  From these events, I learned about the humility and beauty of healing and my passion for psychology and my life path in helping others.
