5 Benefits of Transgender Support Group!

Be honest.  Gender transition is challenging.  Heck, it is frustrating. Makes you feel angry at how unfair it is to deal with gender dysphoria.

Friends and family can offer a supportive ear during difficult times, but you have to be mindful of their personal boundaries.

Transgender support groups are highly recommended to all of my clients, regardless of their support system.

Already in therapy? Why add additional expanse?  But what if it doesn’t have to cost you a penny?  You heard me right.  Free.

The only investment you’ll be making is a personal one.  One that can aid you throughout your transition and help decrease symptoms of gender dysphoria.

Do I have your attention?

Good.  Here are 5 benefits of transgender support groups.

#1 GENDER SUPPORT GROUP HELPS YOU REALIZE YOU ARE NOT ALONE

  • In my previous Transition & Beyond Support Group, someone would describe their first group meeting.  They say, “You know until I went to the group, I didn’t realize there were other people dealing with the same gender issues.”

  • This realization brings a feeling of relief and connectedness to others.  Connecting you with other trans people experiencing similar issues.

  • While each person is at a different point in their transition, joining a group offers a window into how individuals cope with gender dysphoria.

#2 GENDER SUPPORT GROUP HELPS YOU EXPRESS WHO YOU TRULY

  • Attending a group full of trans people boosts your confidence. Even encourages you to present in your preferred gender for the first time.

  • Often people would arrive early to my group and change into preferred clothing in the bathroom to embody who they are.

  • This allows them to present in their true gender for the first time, increasing motivation to begin the transition.

#3 YOU CAN SHARE YOUR FEELINGS & FRUSTRATIONS

  • Group is an excellent space to offer a supportive environment. Especially during difficult times of going through gender dysphoria.

  • Sharing your feelings in a safe environment with people going through similar experiences is incredibly therapeutic.

  • Realizing many people are going through a similar experience feels encouraging and uplifting.

#4 LEARN WAYS TO COPE

  • Feeling overwhelmed and stressed about your situation? Not sure when to come out or how to start HRT?  Get advice from members on what they found helpful throughout the process.

  • Groups offer an excellent supportive environment where you can allow yourself to be vulnerable and ask for feedback.

#5 REALIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF GENDER TRANSITION

  • Seeing others in the group who are further along in transition, is very powerful. Or people who have transitioned many years ago.

  • These positive role models show that transition, especially passibility, is not only a fantasy but an actual possibility.

  • This brings hope and excitement for those who want to start gender transition but are holding themselves back.

Now I did mention it won’t cost you a penny.
