DR Z PHD Interviews Jordan Ross Jakomin.

Dr. Z interviews Jordan Jakomin, a very special guest she's really excited to talk to. Jordan is a licensed speech-language pathologist (licensed voice specialist/voice therapist).

Jordan uses he/him pronouns and is a queer speech language pathologist and yoga instructor who owns a private practice where he primarily works with trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming youth and adults on voice and communication.

He got into this when he was 20 years old at a conference where he saw a poster board presentation on transgender voice therapy. He immediately went back to his undergrad and asked when they're taking class on this—they told him there is no class. So he did his own research on Google and found the one book written at the time (by Dr. Adler and Sandy Hirsch). He called the author on the back of the book and asked for mentorship—and 10 years later, he's doing this work.

In this interview, Jordan shares biggest mistakes trans femme people make (going too high in pitch without working on resonance), why resonance is more important than pitch, how long voice training takes, and tips for masculinizing voice.
