Does Gender Transition Feel Like Second Puberty?

Dr. Z discusses how similar starting HRT is to puberty. Some even call it going through second puberty, while others strongly disagree with this analogy—even feeling as if equating it to puberty is infantilizing to their current adult status.

The question still remains: Is HRT really analogous or similar to puberty and should we really be calling it just that? That's exactly what she'll try to explore in this video. She'll share her own thoughts on equating puberty to HRT.

Let's take a moment and define puberty for starters. Puberty generally is defined as the time when a boy or a girl becomes sexually mature. What exactly does sexual maturity mean? Does it mean one can engage in sexual behavior, sexual intercourse for example? Does it mean one's sex (as in biological sex) matures and becomes adult? What puberty really is: a process of physical changes through which a child's body matures into an adult body capable of sexual reproduction.

Watch to find out why many changes on HRT feel similar to puberty but aren't exactly the same, and why we need new terminology.
