Here is Why You Don't Want to Chase Numbers on HRT!
Dr. Z talks about starting hormone therapy and getting into the rabbit hole of chasing numbers—something she sees people do especially on social media such as Facebook all of the time. Here's why you don't want to do this and why you want to avoid this.
What does she mean when she says chasing numbers? You're starting a hormone regimen therapy and then you go on a Facebook group or start talking to people on Facebook. You get into this conversation with somebody about: what are your numbers? How much are you taking? How frequently is your dose? What's route of administration? What are your current numbers? What does your blood work say?
Then you start this comparing game. Then somebody else chimes in and says "oh no no no, you're taking too low or too high" and everybody starts, before you know it, playing doctor.
She understands why people do this—as a community, we're all trying to help each other, trying to inform one another, especially when there's very few endocrinologists that are knowledgeable in transgender care.
Watch to find out why you need to stop chasing numbers and what you should chase instead.
