Resistance Toward Taking Action and How It Affects You!

Dr. Z explains the critical difference between resistance and denial when it comes to gender identity and transition. While denial is unconsciously refusing to acknowledge something is happening, resistance is entirely different—you know you're trans or nonbinary, you know you're experiencing gender dysphoria, but you actively resist doing anything about it.

Resistance is that stubborn, visceral reaction: "I know it's there, I see it, but I refuse to deal with it." It's standing firm like steel, knowing the kitchen needs cleaning but refusing to do it. You're not in denial because you consciously acknowledge what's happening—you're just refusing to take action.

Here's the truth: that which you resist persists. When something enters your sphere of conscious awareness, your mind understands there's a problem that needs solving. It keeps bringing it to the forefront of your headspace, and the more you resist, the harder it gets. Resistance is incredibly painful without you even realizing how much pain you're cultivating.

But there's relief in letting go. Accepting who you are—even just acknowledging it to yourself—creates a sense of liberation and freedom. Action eliminates anxiety and puts you in control.

Watch to understand why confronting resistance is essential for moving forward.
