Why Trans Women Desire to Have Sex with Men While Not Feeling Attracted to Them?
Dr. Z addresses a confusing phenomenon many trans women experience: suddenly desiring sexual intimacy with men during or after transition, while recognizing they're still not attracted to men and want relationships with women. This can be incredibly confusing.
First, sexual preferences shifting during transition is common—not necessarily from hormones, but from coming into touch with your authentic self. Things that were dormant, including sexuality, start surfacing as you finally embody your gender.
Dr. Z identifies three main reasons for this specific desire:
First: Your psyche is seeking stereotypical validation. Your feminine self wants heteronormative validation—men being attracted to you, desiring you. This is unconscious compensation. Some clients even have dreams about sexual intimacy with men while knowing they're not attracted.
Second: This could be your actual sexual orientation awakening. You might be attracted to both men and women, but experiencing resistance or haven't fully connected with it yet.
Third: You're emotionally attracted to women for relationships, but sexually open to various individuals for physical pleasure—sexual attraction without intimate desire.
