The #1 Killer of Your Ability to Succeed in Transition!

Dr. Z shares the number one thing that stifles, kills, and annihilates the potential of successful gender transition—regardless of what success means to you.

First, what is a successful transition? Success is subjective and personal. For some, gender dysphoria drastically decreased or is completely gone, and mental and physical health is so much better. For others: passing without being misgendered. For others: being supported and loved after coming out to spouse, kids, work, and community. Success might also be a moving target—once you achieve one goal, new ones emerge.

The #1 success killer: Comparing yourself—where you're at, how far you've come, what you've accomplished, what may or may not be feasible for you—to other people you see. Comparison is the number one success killer. People struggling emotionally (defeated, hopeless, frustrated, anxious, insecure, self-loathing) stem from comparison and the inability to accept who they are and the context of their circumstances.

Each of us exists within our own set of realities—anchored to our circumstances, histories, access to resources, and what and who we currently are.

In this video, Dr. Z addresses:

Why comparing yourself to impossible standards kills success (a 5'6" woman compared to a 5'11" woman). How "if only" thoughts are shovels digging deeper holes of despair. How situating success within your own circumstances—no matter how challenging—is the path to happiness. Why the comparison trap creates unnecessary misery even when you achieve things others envy.
