Trans Women! Here is Surgical Transition in Detail!
Dr. Z discusses surgical transition for trans women in detail. She's going to outline what are some of the major gender affirming surgeries involved.
Keep in mind that surgical transition is not for everyone and not everyone goes through surgical transition in order to transition. In addition, some people may choose one or two surgeries while others may want to have more. Again, to be clear: surgical transition is not a mandatory step in transition because transition after all is a highly individualized process.
Major procedures include: breast augmentation (surgical procedure of breast enhancement—two types of implants currently used in United States: silicone and saline, your doctor will help you decide which implant is best), facial feminization surgery (helps feminize facial features—can range from mild to more complicated procedure, can involve cheek implants, forehead reduction, brow lift, nose job, jaw reconstruction), tracheal shave (also falls in category of facial feminization surgery), vocal surgery (still very risky option, may have negative outcome versus positive), body contouring feminization surgery, and gender affirming surgery (also known as bottom surgery—orchiectomy, vaginoplasty).
Watch for detailed breakdown of all procedures.
