Afraid & Not Wanting Some Changes on HRT?

Dr. Z makes a video for anybody who wants to start hormone therapy (feminizing or masculinizing) and is hesitating because they're concerned about certain changes hormones can bring that they really do not want.

For masculinizing hormones, you may be afraid of early male pattern baldness, acne on your face, facial hair, or voice drop (if interested in microdosing with subtle changes). For feminizing hormone therapy, you may be afraid of breast growth, redistribution of body fat, softening of skin, decrease in sexual libido, or difficulty maintaining erection (especially if not interested in genital surgery, comfortable with genitalia, and sexually active).

What do you do when you want to engage in hormone therapy as part of your transition path but there are certain things hormone therapy can bring that you really don't want to experience (including potential medical risks)?

Dr. Z is saddened to tell you this, but there's going to be a trade-off. Transition in so many ways is not a straight ticket to a super comfort zone where you feel so good and in alignment with yourself. It is for some people, but for most it's some form of trade-off. Transition itself is such a difficult, expensive, and painful undertaking—this is not a walk in the park.

Watch to find out what you should do to evaluate the trade-offs and whether the benefits outweigh what you're afraid of.
