Are You Questioning if You Should Transition?
Dr. Z answers a question a lot of people ask in the comment section on her YouTube videos: how do you know if you're ready to start gender transition?
First of all, that's a very loaded question. Without knowing your history or being able to work with you directly, that's something completely outside of Dr. Z's reach to answer as a clinical psychologist. But she wants to bring your attention back to your own question.
The fact that you're asking whether or when you'll know if transition is right for you is an indication of a level of uncertainty in relationship to your gender.
There's a big difference between people who know for sure they're transgender, know for sure they're struggling with gender dysphoria, and are not sure whether they want to start gender transition because they're afraid of potential things that might come with it—versus somebody who is not even sure if they might be transgender, they think they're dealing with gender dysphoria, and they're wondering when is the right time to start gender transition.
Watch to find out why you should explore social transition first (grow hair long/cut short, change clothing style, change name/pronouns—things that don't cause irreversible changes) and why medical transition is serious undertaking.
