18-28 Year Olds! Here is Why You Experience Self Doubt About Your Gender!

Dr. Z explores why certain people experience a lot of doubt and uncertainty about their gender. In this video, she's talking about younger category—people who fall into the age between 18 to about 27 (maybe 28-29). Age makes a huge difference in why you may be feeling a lot of doubt.

Many people who fall into the younger category ask her this question: "I think I might be trans but I'm not really sure. I'm experiencing a lot of doubt. I want to start hormones or transition but because I have so much doubt and uncertainty, I don't really know if that's the right decision for me."

Dr. Z wants to address some elements of that and explain why you might be feeling a lot of doubt.

There are about four categories that tend to layer on each other—kind of like strata or lasagna, each layer representing something different that has an effect on our gender identity: sexuality (who we're attracted to), gender expression (how we express ourselves in relationship to gender), gender identity (core sense of who we are in relationship to gender), and gender dysphoria (medical condition—cluster of symptoms from incongruence between biological sex and desired gender).

Watch to find out why confusion happens and how to know if you're dealing with gender dysphoria versus gender expression.
