Feeling Shame & Guilt? Here is Why!

Dr. Z discusses one of the hardest things about being trans—dealing with shame and guilt around being transgender.

Many of you have asked her: if this is my truth, if this is who I am, why do I still feel so ashamed? That's exactly the question she'll answer for you today.

In this episode she'll explain why trans people feel tremendous amount of shame and guilt about who they truly are, especially when it comes to family. If you have children, she'll also share very important insight about shame and guilt that can help you move past it.

One of the reasons many trans people feel this way is because shame and guilt about your gender (other than male or female) has been instilled in you ever since you were very little—pretty much ever since you were a baby.

What does she mean by being instilled in you? When you grow up with the idea that there is a right and a wrong way to do gender (you can only be female or you can only be male), then it becomes natural for you to suppress or even resist who you want to be in favor of what may feel safer or most socially acceptable.

Watch to find out why these feelings aren't yours and how to move past them.
