Many people come into my practice asking me precisely this question: “I can’t possibly be trans if I don’t hate my genitals, right?!”
The “hate my genitals” narrative stems from a long history of lack of access to gender-affirming care and gatekeeping by providers.
Today, many trans folks no longer resonate with this narrative and in fact, feel differently about their genitals.
