Stop Going Against Transition!
You're swimming against the current—Dr. Z explains why living with dysphoria is actually harder than transitioning, even though it doesn't feel that way.
You're asking yourself: How hard is transitioning going to be? It looks very difficult, like starting from ground zero. Where you're at right now feels painful but not super difficult—you've gotten accustomed to coping with dysphoria, strategizing how to manage it, pulling different strings to minimize pain. You've become good at avoiding and escaping thoughts. Over the years you learned how to manage it in your own way (whether healthy or not). At least you know what you're dealing with—this pain is familiar. Over there just seems harder.
The metaphor: You're swimming against the current of water. Swimming against the current uses way more energy, power, and inner resources—it's difficult and painful. Yes, these waters are familiar—you know the temperature, who's swimming next to you, what you'll encounter. But you're forgetting you're swimming AGAINST current.
If you transition, you'll be swimming WITH the current. You'll use less energy, less resources, less power. It'll be easier to move forward because you're moving in the direction you were meant to go—toward true authenticity.
Watch to find out why the obstacles in transition are the unknown (water temperature, other swimmers, how to adapt) but the path is open, and why things fall into place like a puzzle when you move in the direction you're meant to move.
