The Lies You Keep Telling Yourself When Dysphoria Eases Up!
Dr. Z delivers a tender, loving, but punchy push video unfolding things you've been telling yourself—because sometimes we need to hear things spoken by somebody else to realize the position we're in to make change happen. This video addresses ways you're telling yourself lies in order to buy yourself more time.
The lie goes like this: "I am going to buy myself more time because my dysphoria is cured, my dysphoria has gone away, or my gender issues are really not what I actually thought they are." This happens when dysphoria lessens—either because you started taking hormones (and dysphoria lessons the minute it lessons, you start telling yourself "see, I'm done, I'm cured, I can stop taking hormones"), or dysphoria fluctuates dramatically depending on coping mechanisms (throwing yourself into work preoccupation, and when dysphoria goes to the background, you tell yourself "see, it's all fine, it was just a flux, temporarily, momentarily").
The truth: genuine gender dysphoria that's been there for years and years doesn't just suddenly vanish. Dr. Z has yet to see an adult who has had gender dysphoria for five years and up where it suddenly just vanished on its own.
The punch: you're not buying yourself time—you're prolonging your suffering.
