Here is Why You Resist Your Transgender Identity.

You're experiencing resistance to accepting you're transgender—Dr. Z explains why that's actually healthy and normal.

Resistance manifests differently for everyone: self-sabotaging behavior (avoiding seeing a therapist, avoiding discussing options with a doctor, avoiding looking into what transition entails), unhealthy coping (excessive drinking, overworking, engaging in activities to not think about gender), or a negative voice constantly telling you "you're not transgender" or coming up with reasons why you're not.

Why is resistance there? Because you're a mature, intelligent, resourceful adult who's not stupid, dumb, or ignorant. You understand what transition entails—social elements like coming out, medical transition like hormones, possibly surgeries. You also understand the world struggles to accept transgender identity. As a mature adult, you know transition isn't a walk in the park—it comes with challenges, stressors (sometimes traumatic), pain, potential loss, financial costs.

That understanding creates inner resistance. Dr. Z has yet to see an adult with no resistance saying "let's do it, it'll be wonderful and peaceful with no obstacles!" If someone has no resistance, that's a RED FLAG—it demonstrates naive worldview divorced from reality.

Watch to find out why resistance helps you set realistic expectations, why people who think transition is a fad are divorced from reality, and why by the time you decide to transition, you've already tried everything to deal with dysphoria.
