Partners of Trans Series Part 6 | Acceptance & Compromise Phase

Dr. Z discusses the acceptance and compromise phase for partners of trans-identified individuals (Part 6 in the series covering the five most common phases partners go through).

In this sixth video, she talks about what happens when you reach the acceptance and compromise phase—after you've gone through shock, denial, anger, bargaining, and grief.

Acceptance is when you've come to terms with the reality that your partner is transgender and is pursuing transition. This doesn't mean you're necessarily happy about it or that all your concerns have disappeared—it means you've accepted that this is your reality and you're ready to move forward from this place of understanding.

Compromise is the natural next step. This is where you and your partner work together to figure out what the relationship is going to look like moving forward. What are you comfortable with? What are your boundaries? What can you accept and what can't you accept?

It's important to understand the difference between healthy compromise (where both partners' needs are considered) and unhealthy sacrifice (where one partner gives up everything they need to make the other happy).

Watch to find out how to navigate the acceptance and compromise phase.
