Why Gender Dysphoria Shifts Around?

Dr. Z talks about gender dysphoria—the concept of gender dysphoria as a moving target. That's something she came up with because she found a lot of individuals presenting to her with concerns of not having particular dysphoria about a particular body part later on, only to find out that they feel incredibly dysphoric about it.

An example would be especially in relationship to genitals—she has a lot of individuals who presented to her at one point not having any gender dysphoria at all in relation to their genitals, claiming they don't want to have any surgery at all, only to find out throughout their transition that suddenly they felt a lot of dysphoria about their genitals and decided they really wanted to get gender surgery.

A lot of people tend to ask her: why is it that dysphoria tends to shift throughout the body or throughout your sense of self? Why is it that gender dysphoria for some parts of ourselves at some point didn't really experience any challenges, and later on find out you're experiencing a lot of dysphoria in relationship to that body part?

Watch to find out why gender dysphoria is a moving target and how to prepare for this.
