2 Factors Which Can Determine If Relationship Survives Transition.
Dr. Z talks about relationships, specifically sharing two main factors she's observed over the course of her career that consistently showcase whether a couple (married or together in relationship) will make it through transition.
Today she's talking about individuals who decide to transition from one binary to another—transgender binary individuals (male to female or female to male). She's not talking about people who fall somewhere in middle of spectrum (like nonbinary individuals) because middle of spectrum enables more flexibility—not as many medical transition aspects involved. When you go from one binary to another, most times people engage in medical or surgical aspects of transition, physically changing drastically, which affects relationships.
What are the two factors consistently present in couples that make it through transition?
Number one main factor: emotional attraction in relationship. This falls into two categories—how long has couple been together (how many years of shared experience), and what's the quality of that time? How full is your emotional bank? Is your bank positive or in debt?
Watch to find out the second factor and why it matters.
